Healthy Environments for Physical Activity

Overview

The Healthy Environments Committee believes that transportation and recreational spaces are interconnected and represent the quality of the built environment! They work to bring physical activity to the Dearborn community.

Goal

Increase physical activity by ensuring that everyone, no matter where they live, has access to safe and desirable opportunities for play and active lifestyles.

Objectives

  1. Create and operate Dearborn Healthy Streets program

  2. Increase community awareness of availability and importance of physical opportunities including Walk n' Roll and other initiatives.

  3. Improve and access transit through a multi-modal transportation plan

Active Projects

Healthy Dearborn is proposing to conduct a pilot program to adapt some city streets to become “Shared Streets” to promote healthy lifestyles.


A Dearborn inter-school competition to promote walking and biking to school.

Free, fun and self-guided walks throughout Dearborn to promote literacy and physical activity using deconstructed story book pages.
